Rugby Club open day promotes community work

DINNINGTON Rugby Club held their first ‘open day’ on Sunday, showing off the club’s history and promoting their work in the community.

The club’s origins, from formation in 1967 by a group of locals, led by Coun Peggy Rowett and enthusiast Tommy Randall, were on display through photos, newspaper clippings and stories.

Club officials were all on hand to meet members and visitors and answer questions.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Dave and Sue Pickering paid a visit, along with Coun Pauline Davies, chair of Dinnington St John’s Parish Council.

Representatives from Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance were also invited, and the club handed over cheques for £700 and £985 respectively.
