Boston Buccaneers were looking forward to the 2020 season after recruiting new players and attracting new sponsors.

However, their Rugby League campaign appears to be over before it has started due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Head coach Jim Dearing said: “Unfortunately, the lockdown started on the week we were due to have our first meet up of the season prior to starting training the week after.

“Everything from training to fixtures was all planned and we were looking forward to getting started.

“Being a development league our season is quite short so there isn’t too much room for fixture rescheduling.

“We’re all missing Rugby League right now and nobody knows for sure how long this will last, all we can do is follow the advice we’re given.”

Dearing added: “The main thing at the minute is making sure everybody is safe and well.

“The number of people who have sadly lost their lives to the Corona virus puts things into perspective.

“Our thoughts are with anyone that has been affected by this.

“Everyone’s situation, and how they manage it, will be slightly different with work and families.

“If anybody in the club is finding things difficult, needs a hand with anything or someone to talk to, all they have to do is let us know.”
