Lincoln children celebrate launch of latest Monster Diaries adventure

Lincoln children got a first look at the latest Monster Diaries adventure recently when they attended the launch of The Minotaur and the Greatest Escape Ever, the new book from Lincoln children’s author Anne Miller.

Anne, who is supported by the GLL Literary Foundation, hosted a launch event at Lincoln Central Library, which is run by GLL, the not-for-profit social enterprise, on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council.

The excited children learned about the inspiration behind Anne’s fresh and funny take on one of Greek mythology’s most famous monsters and enjoyed an interactive quiz tackling big questions such as: Would you rather have one huge eye like Cyclops or 100 small eyes like Argos?

The young guests also enjoyed monster-themed crafts and were able to buy their own copies of the book, provided by local independent book shop Shelf Editions. The shop was founded and is run by Helen Hancocks, who was a GLL Literary Foundation recipient in 2025.

The GLL Literary Foundation supports authors while helping libraries connect children and families with stories and reading. Through author visits, workshops and community events, the programme aims to help children discover the enjoyment of reading and build confidence as readers, while strengthening connections between libraries, families and local authors.

The Minotaur and the Greatest Escape Ever is the second book in Anne’s Monster Diaries series, which retells classic Greek myths from the monsters’ point of view. It follows The Cyclops and the Worst Party Ever, with a third title featuring Medusa set to follow.
