Local opticians raises funds for sight loss research
A Bourne opticians marked UV Awareness Month by raising £150 for Fight for Sight, offering customers the chance to win a pair of sunglasses while supporting vital sight loss research.
The team at the locally owned and run Specsavers store in Bourne hosted a fundraising competition throughout July, inviting customers to guess the number of water balloons in a tub in exchange for a £1 donation. The closest guess won a pair of sunglasses, with all proceeds going to Fight for Sight, a charity that funds research to help better understand, diagnose, prevent and treat vision loss.

The winning guess came from Mrs Middleton, who kindly chose to donate the value of the sunglasses back to the charity fund.
‘UV Awareness Month is an important reminder of why protecting our eyes from the sun is crucial for eye health,’ comments Ian Stradling, store director at Specsavers Bourne. ‘We wanted to do something fun to get our customers involved but also raise funds for Fight for Sight, a charity that carries out valuable work in sight loss research. Thank you to everyone who took part, especially to Mrs Middleton for her generosity.’
