St Barnabas Hospice Research and Education Conference returns next month

“We want this conference to be accessible to everyone, whether you’re an experienced researcher or someone who has never been involved in research before”

Health professionals from across Lincolnshire and beyond, along with national third sector organisations, medical schools, and students, are invited to join St Barnabas Hospice for its second conference, with this year’s event placing a particular focus on research and education in palliative and end of life care.

Sarah Christopher, Head of Education at St Barnabas, says: “We want this conference to be accessible to everyone, whether you’re an experienced researcher or someone who has never been involved in research before. You don’t need a PhD, you don’t need to be working on a research project, and you don’t need to understand research methodology – curiosity is enough.

“You might discover an opportunity to get involved in research, make a valuable connection or simply have a conversation that sparks a new idea. We hope delegates will come along, ask questions, meet people and leave with something they can take back into their own practice.”

keynote speakers:

  • Professor Alun Roebuck, Senior Consultant Nurse in Cardiology, who will bring a heart failure and palliative care perspective to clinical care.

  • Dr Adam Brown, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, who will share his professional journey, experience, and learning from a PGCert in Medical Education.

  • Dr Greg Whitley, Paramedic Research Fellow, who will explore his research journey and key principles for research in practice.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to take part in a range of interactive breakout activities, including:

  • Clinical board games – exploring how games can support learning in health and social care education.

  • Clinical equipment and simulation stand – featuring realistic, simulated wounds and moulage demonstrations to encourage discussion and learning.

  • ReSPECT documentation – a supportive session where delegates can learn about completing ReSPECT forms, understand challenges and practise documentation.

  • SR1 in Practice – an interactive session helping clinicians understand how to complete an SR1 form through practical scenarios, while introducing a new quick reference guide and Palliative Care Pathway Checklist.

For just £25, delegates will receive six hours of CPD, a certificate of attendance, lunch and refreshments at the Bentley Hotel, access to exhibitors, and a delegate bag full of goodies.

Exhibitors currently confirmed include CPDme Portfolio Building Made Easy, Lincolnshire Care Association, Alzheimer’s Society, Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT NHS), NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), Macmillan Cancer Support, Lincolnshire Training Hub, Lincolnshire County Council, Focus Games Ltd, LIVES and One You Lincolnshire.

Alongside the conference, there will also be a separate public drop-in area, giving members of the general public an opportunity to meet St Barnabas clinical staff, ask questions, and find out more about the hospice and the support it provides.

Ticket income will go towards supporting St Barnabas Hospice’s care and support across Lincolnshire. This support helps the hospice provide compassionate, dignified care to local people living with a life-limiting illness, as well as supporting their families and loved ones.
