Busy year ahead for Brigg Lions

President Dawn Gillman has announced the Nelthorpe Arms on Bridge Street is to be the venue for the club’s two main community events in 2016 - the annual Beer Festival will be held from May 12 to 14 and the Cider Festival on September 8 and 9.

“Last year the Cider Festival was held as part of the late summer family weekend, but we had a feeling that it came after a string of summer events and suffered because of that,” said Mrs Gillman.

“This and the fact that it was not held in the town centre were disadvantageous when it came to attracting sponsors and supporters, so now we are taking it back to the Nelthorpe.”

Another initiative will be launched this month - an Easter egg raffle.

“We need as many town centre business premises to participate as possible, with all the money raised going to the Lincs Air Ambulance,” said Lion Brian Marshall.

“It’s a card game really and the cards and Easter eggs will be in shops, business premises and pubs shortly. Each card filled should raise over £30 and it would be great to have over twenty venues where they are being filled in.”

The Lions are looking for new sponsors and also members to be involved with fundraising and to enjoy being part of a lively social group.

Mrs Gillman stressed the money raised at the Lions various events in the town through the year all goes to local charities.

“We had a hugely successful year in 2015,” she added.

“We have supported Brigg Breast Cancer Support Group and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as two of our charities in 2015.

“We have also helped individuals and groups where there has been a particular personal need. But we always need more support.

“And of course at this time of year we say a big thank you to all who have supported us locally at our 2015 events.”
