Every one of the 96 seats at the Lion Theatre has now been sponsored - and work will soon be under way to install them.

A spokesman for the theatre said: “We are enormously grateful for the support of members, families, friends and well-wishers who have made this possible. The seats have been removed from the theatre and members are currently working hard to get the auditorium redecorated whilst they are out.

“The seats are due back in the theatre in a couple of weeks and we can’t wait to see how they look and feel!.

“So successful has the fundraising for the refurbishment been that the surplus and further kind donations coming in all the time will be used, with the permission of the donors, towards replacing the stage curtains, now looking sadly shabby after 30 years.”

The company will be creating a Roll of Honour to hang in the theatre crediting those who have donated towards the curtain replacement. Anyone who missed the chance to sponsor a seat and who would like to help with the cost of the curtains can make a donation at the company’s box office, the Horncastle Music Shop.

Although it is too early to say yet whether the curtains will be replaced in time for the opening night of our next production, the group is looking forward to inviting people to take a seat to see When We Are Married by JB Priestley, which runs from May 18-21.

The programme for the next year has now been decided and details will soon be appearing on the company’s website Horncastletheatre.co.uk
