In 1472, the castle changed from Lancastrian to Yorkist and the living history weekend gave an insight into how things might have been at that time.

“Warfare was happening, but there was a whole community existing at the same time,” said Jack Edwards, chairman of Livery and Maintenance.

“Day-to-day life saw people just trying to put food on the table.”

Smoke from their kitchen fires rose high and the smell of medieval cuisine filled the air as the re-enactors looked at home in their medieval attire with the Castle as a backdrop.

“We pride ourselves on staying as true to the time period as possible,” added Jack.

“We base everything on archaeological finds and documented evidence.

“We make things as close to almost museum quality as possible.”

Visitors to the castle could walk through the camp and take part in activities.

Each day was also filled with talks and demonstrations on medieval life, skills, crafts and combat.
