Fuel costs hit record highs for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance
Rising fuel costs are putting fresh pressure on Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance (LNAA), driving up the amount the charity says it must raise to deliver lifesaving care by air and in its Critical Care Cars.
The charity’s next aviation fuel order is due in November; at the highest price it has seen so far.
Like many organisations, LNAA has been affected by rising fuel costs throughout 2026 caused by conflict in the Middle East and threats to shipping and pipelines. While aviation fuel prices eased slightly during the summer, they have continued to climb overall, increasing from around 67p per litre at the start of the year to £1.16 per litre today, a rise of approximately 73 per cent.
For a charity that relies on its helicopter to reach people in their greatest hour of need, this increase is significant, with LNAA estimating it could spend an additional £70,000 on fuel this year compared with prices remaining at their start-of-year level.

Petrol costs for the charity’s Critical Care Cars are also rising, says the charity with an estimated additional cost of £10,000. These higher costs bring an extra fundraising challenge, making the continued support of the community all the more important.
Karen Jobling, CEO at LNAA, said: “We are so grateful to everyone who supports our lifesaving work. As fuel prices rise, it costs us more to keep providing the same service, but we want to reassure our communities that we will continue flying and remain fully operational.”
Karen added: “Our supporters make such a difference. Their kindness and generosity help keep our service running, and we are thankful for their continued support as we meet these extra costs.”
People can donate at Ambucopter.org.uk or organise a fundraising event in your community or volunteer with LNAA.
