Plans for outdoor play area at community centre approved

Plans for outdoor play equipment to be installed at a community centre have been approved.

Applicant Laura McCooey from Mareham Le Fen Village Hall and Memorial Lawn Charity, applied to East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) to install a series of play equipment on the site of Mareham Le Fen Community Centre on Horncastle Road, Mareham Le Fen, near Horncastle.

The new equipment will include slides, a climbing frame, swings, a carousel, balance beams, spinners and a roundabout.

Benches will also be installed and the play area will be surrounded by bow top galvanised fencing and two self-closing pedestrian gates.

A grass mat will be installed underneath and beside some of the equipment for safety purposes.

An application for the installation of play equipment was approved in 2023 but the charity was unable to raise the funds to pay for the new facilities at the time. The permission for this original application has expired.

The application is effectively a resubmission of the original plans, now that the charity has raised the funds needed to purchase the equipment.

In a report, a spokesperson for ELDC said: “The proposal would provide a useful community facility in a centralised and easily accessible location, without causing harm to heritage assets, residential amenity, or loss of valuable green infrastructure.

“There would be no technical issues. With conditions in place, there would be compliance with the Local Plan.”

The application has been approved, subject to conditions.
