Local leaders to write to schools asking them to give pupils day off for Lincolnshire Show
Leading councillors will write to schools asking them to give pupils the day off to go to the Lincolnshire Show.
The Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire Dame Andrea Jenkyns (Reform UK) said that many schools don’t currently give students the time to go to the annual event – which she argued was critical in showcasing the county’s farming heritage.
Members of the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority have agreed to write to schools across the region to encourage them to give students the day off to go to the event, which is held at the Lincolnshire Showground.
Next year it will be held on June 23 and 24 – just after the typical school exam season.

At a meeting of the authority’s business and infrastructure board on Wednesday, November 4, the mayor said that the event helps to encourage the importance of food production and the need to “get this next generation” into the workforce.
Lincolnshire County Council leader Sean Matthews (Reform UK – Tattershall Castle) said the Lincolnshire Show was a “fantastic advert for our county and the food that we produce”.
