A number of restaurants and takeaways in the town have now come together to set up an appeal to provide food packs for the staff at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital and they get regular supplies of hot food.

Mohammed Alexander from the Raj Palace restaurant contacted the Boston Standard to ask for people to help through a gofundme page.

“As the peak of the current outbreak approaches, we are spearheading a local emergency appeal, attempting to raise funds to get support to our NHS staff on the front line,” he said.

“Our NHS professionals are already overworked, under resourced and on shifts that are only getting longer as the crises worsens. With cafes and restaurants closed there is a real need to get hot food to these heroes in the frontline.”

The restaurant has already been joined by other local eateries DoMuk, Brunch and Shapla and the campaign is supported by SOS – Call to Action.

Donations received through the page will go to provide hot meals, fruit baskets and bottled water to be delivered to the Pilgrim – and Mohammed is hopeful it can be widened to take in more of the county.

The appeal has been supported by the Boston Pilgrim Hospital campaign group SoS – Call For Action.

The group’s Alison Marriot said: “We are supporting Mo Alexander in his appeal, he is coordinating this and we are providing financial support to the GoFundMe campaign, encouragement and help with spreading the word.

“An army marches on its stomach, and the frontline healthcare workers need nutritious food 24/7.

“There is very little available at night and weekends, only vending machines,” she said.

“This is something we can all chip in to as much or as little as we can spare, to feed those risking their lives for us & our loved ones, keeping them healthy on the frontline & showing our appreciation.”
