This was long before Strait Bargate was closed to traffic, or John Adams Way opened in a bid to cut the amount of vehicles heading through the town centre.

It also pre-dates the opening of Haven Bridge, which provided an alternative to Town Bridge for getting across the river.

No, the year here is 1960 – early February.

The writing on the negative sleeve confirms it as ‘Cherry Corner’, which is where the jewellers F. H. Hinds stands today.

If the resolution was sharp enough (and there wasn’t a bus in the way), you would be able to see Boots in its old home before it moved across the Market Place to where it has been for the last 50-plus years.
