Alford man sentenced after threatening to ‘kill’ his ex-girlfriend’s new partner

Kirk Fairfield of Caroline Street, Alford, admitted sending a threatening electronic communication to Emma Mountain and Paul Owen for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety, when he appeared before Skegness Magistrates’ Court.

Paul Wood, prosecuting, said Fairfield made two telephone calls on December 9 to his former partner Emma Mountain and, because there had been previous difficulties between them, she recorded the conversation.

In expressing concerns about her new partner, Fairfield said he wanted to ‘slice him up’ and that if he went ‘anywhere near my kid, I’ll kill him. I swear to God I’ll kill him’.

Mr Wood said the second call on the same day was similar to the first, but Fairfield ended by saying ‘I’m on my way. I’m on my way’.

As they feared for their safety, Ms Mountain and Mr Owen telephoned the police, said Mr Wood.

Mitigating, Nicholas Alderson said that although it was quite evident there had been threats, it had all been hot air as, although he had the opportunity to go there, he did not.

He said that Fairfield was concerned about Ms Mountain’s new partner and that he was not suitable for his and Ms Mountain’s son.

Mr Alderson said that Fairfield regretted what he had said and would have contacted them to apologise but he was prevented from doing so by the conditions of his bail.

He said that circumstances had changed and now Fairfield was the full time carer for his son, as well as for his father, who was not well.

The magistrates yesterday (Tuesday) imposed a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered Fairfield to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £50 towards the costs.
