Caylen's splash for cash in bid to help in Nepal

A Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School pupil is making a splash to raise cash to enable her to be part of an expedition to Nepal in 2017.

Caylen Jones (14) is determined to get to Nepal so she can participate in workshops with leading international agencies and charities. She would also get the opportunity to work on a high-impact poverty reduction programme.

But to be able to go, Caylen needs to raise £3,000.

Always up for a challenge, the teenager has decided to swim the equivalent of the English Channel, 22 miles from Dover to Calais at Horncastle Swimming Pool before Easter. Each mile comprises 64 lengths, meaning she will have completed 1,416 lengths by the end of the swim.

Caylen explained:“I feel that this Nepal project is extremely important to provide solid support to those who have suffered so much. On a personal level, it will be a massive learning experience.

“The management team at the pool who taught me to swim when I was only a few weeks old have been incredibly supportive by letting me use the pool facilities for free and put the swim session fee into the collection tin instead.

“I am extremely grateful for the encouragement and support that I have received so far. However I still have a long way to go, therefore, any donations or sponsors would be greatly appreciated.”
