Council backs trial to improve bagged waste collections for Gainsborough residents
West Lindsey District Council is set to engage with a minority of households in the district that continue to receive waste and recycling collections in bags rather than wheeled bins.
The trial will seek to address residents’ concerns about the effectiveness, cleanliness and long-term sustainability of the approach, as well as to increase recycling.
The planned public engagement exercise with households in parts of Gainsborough was welcomed by councillors at a recent full council meeting who also agreed to trial a new approach in the meantime to help households that still receive waste and recycling collections in bags rather than wheeled bins.
The trial will see 100 households in the South West Ward, Gainsborough, offered metal dustbins, free of charge, to store their waste safely before collection day and will supplement plans for a small number of communal recycling bins in the area,

The aim is to help reduce issues such as split bags, litter, vermin and poor street cleanliness, while supporting residents to recycle more and manage their waste more easily.
A public engagement exercise will take place later in the year with the pilots planned to be rolled out from October 1.
