Road deaths in Lincolnshire at a five-year high in 2026
Road deaths across Lincolnshire are at a five-year high – according to new statistics.
During the first 10 months of 2026, from January 1 to October 31, there were 44 road fatalities recorded – the highest figure on record since 2020 and a 69% increase on last year.
The figures come from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership (LRSP) – which is calling on drivers to pay extra care as winter approaches.
A LRSP spokesperson explained: “Whilst this year shows a substantial increase from last year, 2025 saw a lower number of fatalities than previous years.

"This year’s figure is sadly more in line with historical figures and it represents a huge amount of heartache and grief for families across the county.
“Unfortunately, and despite several campaigns, we still struggle with people being receptive to the message that when using our roads we must all take responsibility for driving with appropriate care and attention, being responsible for our actions and adhering to the rules of the road.
"Far too often we see individuals commenting that it is the fault of someone or something else, that speed limits aren’t compulsory and it is nothing to do with our own individual actions.”
The partnership called driving “one of the most complex tasks that humans undertake on a daily basis”, requiring a level of concentration and care that matches this complexity “to ensure we complete our journeys safely”.
"We cannot continue to ignore our own personal responsibilities to keep both ourselves and others safe by driving appropriately,” the spokesperson adds.
“If nothing else, if we can at least remember the ABC of road safety that we promote – Avoid distractions; Be patient; and, Concentrate. Just making this your priority when using the roads will give us a much better chance of arriving safely at our destinations.”
The road death statistics from the following six years, from January 1 to October 31 are as follows:
• 2026 - 44 fatalities
• 2025 – 26 fatalities
• 2024 – 41 fatalities
• 2023 – 41 fatalities
• 2022 – 35 fatalities
• 2021 – 34 fatalities
• 2020 – 45 fatalities
