Epworth’s free Music Festival all set to go

A host of singers, musicians, bands and dancers will converge upon Epworth’s streets next month for another day of great live entertainment.

Following on from last year’s successful Music Day, that saw hundreds of performers and visitors enjoying the summer sunshine at venues in and around the town centre.

This year on June 20, there will be 10 different venues staging performances simultaneously, and hopefully the weather will be kind again as people of all ages enjoy the great atmosphere at what has become a traditional free event.

The first strums will be heard at 10am then music will persist throughout the day to 5pm.

Among the key places to visit will be the car park of White Bear pub and restaurant, the gardens of Wesley Memorial Methodist church in Mayfair Court, the car park of the Queen’s Head, an area next to Benny’s Pizza outlet, Fountains Court, Market Place, Vinegarth, the grounds of the Mowbray Arms, and the gardens of the Old Rectory.

Music will cover all genres to suit all tastes and programmes will be printed detailing who will be performing where, and when.

Expect melodies and dance dating from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, folk music and song, brass bands, rock, jazz, morris dancers, guitarists, a barber shop quartet and choral singing, to name but a few. Over 45 groups will perform.

If the day is wet the show will still go on under cover. A free evening concert will take place in St Andrew’s Church from 7pm featuring groups who may perform for the second time.

Sponsors of the day this year include Epworth Town Council, North Lincolnshire Council and Woolgar Insurance.

All that’s needed to make they day wonderful once more is an audience (estimated to be 1000-plus) and the whole event is free.

The free music festival has grown from a few acts six years ago to a major attraction.
