Free course to help young cyclists stay safe on the roads

Bikeability is offering free courses this summer for 11 to 16-year-olds to learn vital skills helping them to keep safe while cycling on the road.

Bikeability Level 3 equips youngsters with the skills to deal with all types of road conditions and more challenging traffic situations.

These include dealing with hazards, assessing risks while on the move, planning safer routes for cycling, and being aware of driver blind spots.

Courses will be run in small groups, taught by qualified Bikeability instructors who are also DBS checked.

Anyone wishing to take part should already have completed Bikeability Level 2 training.

They will need a roadworthy bicycle and suitable cycle helmet.

They will need a parent/carer to accompany them at the beginning and end of each session.

A course is being held at West Lindsey Leisure Centre on Wednesday, August 17.

The course last three hours and involves training on public roads. Session times will be 9am to noon or 1pm to 4pm.
