Gainsborough: New addition to the historic blue plaque trail
The Delvers blue plaque series honours special people and places associated with Old Gainsborough.
A small crowd gathered outside the GP surgery in Caskgate Street to hear Phyllis make the connection between her life in the health care profession to the legendary Elswitha, the daughter of the original tribe that inhabited Gainsborough, who married Alfred the Great in 868.

Over the years the original plaques had become faded, therefore, it was decided to launch a project to have new plaques made, this time cast in metal, replacing some from the original series, and others dedicated to new places and faces connected with Old Gainsborough. Other new additions include Karl Wood in Curtis Walk and Thomas Miller and Seven Foot Lane, both on Bridge Street.
