Eastoft Gardening Club was formed in March, primarily to act as a ‘gardening club’ but it became apparent there was great interest in the village to also use it as a platform to enhance the appearance all around.

The inaugural meeting was well attended by residents and membership has slowly grown since, and a School Gardening Club has since been launched, run by Lorna Whitley and Brenda Gleadle.

Chairman Pete Walker said: “The idea of the walkabout, suggested by the residents, was to identify areas where we can quite easily make an impact, with our limited funding, and a few of the suggestions were, with our historic links to the River Don, we agreed to purchase a small boat and position it on what would have been the river bed planted with flowers, working with the council to clear unkempt waste land and plant with wild flowers, take over the horticultural maintenance of the war memorial and improve the village hall exterior.”
