Super soup - The next monthly super soup day will be held at Palavas, New End, this Friday, February 26, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, when all are invited to join in and enjoy delicious soup in good company, while also supporting those in need.

As always, the proceeds raised will go to the Horncastle Community Larder, either through the purchase of tickets at £2.50 per person or the donation of products.

Open gardens - Advance notice is given of a further new venture for the village this summer, when the annual fete will be replaced by a themed open village event and some brave people will be opening their gardens to share with visitors.

An initial meeting was held in the village hall with residents invited to start the planning.

It is envisaged there will still be the stalls and teas which are part of a traditional village fete, but it is hoped more residents will join in with something similar to a scarecrow festival.

Everyone will be invited to choose a poem or song about gardens, the countryside or love and make a tableau or display in their front gardens.

There will be a map to follow and visitors will go around and admire the displays, dropping off for refreshments along the way.

The planned date for the event is Saturday, June 18, and more details will be available as plans progress.
