'Inspirational' Aston student surprised with accolade by athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill

Chris Badger, who is 18-years-old and suffers from cerebral palsy, was surprised by Jessica whilst taking part in a Sky Sports Living for Sports skills session at the English Institute of Sport.

During the session, students took part in a skills game promoting communication, involving half the group wearing blindfolds whilst their partners guided them across the room.

Jessica joined the students during the game, replacing Chris’s partner and surprising him with the Student of the Year award as he removed his blindfold. The presentation was broadcast on Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday.

Jessica Ennis-Hill said: “Chris is a fabulous student and embodies what Sky Sports Living for Sport is all about .

“His ability to stand-up and speak about his own story in an inspirational manner, is exactly what makes him a worthy winner of the Sky Sports Living for Sport award.”

Aston Academy teacher, Jill Newbolt, was “thrilled” to learn that Chris had won the award.

She said: “Chris is admired throughout Aston Academy, by both teachers and students. Receiving the Sky Sports Living for Sport Student of the Year award is greatly deserved and I cannot put into words how happy I am for Chris.

“His ability to overcome challenges and motivate young people to get involved in sport makes me so proud.”
