Gary Gillon, 25, of Brake View, Ollerton, faced sentencing for theft and receiving stolen goods, and was ordered to attend meetings for a report to be prepared.

In mitigation, Chris Perry, said: “He is trying to change. His dog was ill and needed a £500 operation. What stopped him from going out to rob was the fear of going to prison.”

District Judge Diana Baker said: “I wanted to give you a chance to get to the bottom of your personality disorder.”

He must also pay an £80 surcharge.
