Charity boost in memory of much-loved supporter of the arts in Louth

Money has been raised to boost a charity in memory of an ardent and much-loved supporter of the arts in Louth.

Allan Dunning, who died in April, was a long-term volunteer at the Riverhead Theatre and also a member of Louth Male Voice Choir for 21 years, serving as its librarian.

To honour him, the theatre has handed over a cheque for £1,000 to the Louth Run For Life initiative in aid of the charity, Cancer Research UK.

The money was raised through sales of a calendar linked to the performance earlier this year at the theatre of the well-known production, ‘Calendar Girls’.

The cheque was presented by Sarah Elliott, who is assistant manager at the theatre, and received by Teresa Doe, of Louth Run For Life.

Also there at the presentation ceremony was John Kennedy, chair of the choir, which also raised £80 for the cause.

Louth Run For Life has been a supporter of Cancer Research UK for almost 20 years thanks to its annual charity runs.

Allan remained an active member of the choir until a few weeks before his death. When his passing was announced on the choir’s Facebook page, many heartfelt tributes were paid to him.

Two typical posts read: “An absolutely lovely man who will be missed by so many” and “Such sad news. Allan brightened up our rehearsals.”
