Charity donation acknowledges value of rural fire crews at Binbrook and across the county

The importance of rural fire stations has been recognised by a local company after a quick response saved their premises.

Members of Binbrook fire crew gratefully accepted the donation on behalf of the Firefighters Charity

On bonfire night (November 5), the roof of a commercial building in Binbrook Technical Park at Brookenby caught fire.

With Binbrook having an on-call Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue crew, firefighters were there within minutes to deal with incident.

Crews from Louth, Market Rasen and Caistor Fire Stations also attended to help stem the blaze.

So grateful were building owners, Brookenby Park Management, a representative visited Binbrook Fire Station to hand over a donation of £500 for the Firefighters Charity.

They said: “Brookenby Park Management unfortunately suffered from a small fire to our mixed-use commercial premises on the evening of Thursday November 5, which, thanks to the swift response and professionalism of the local fire services, was limited to only minor damage.

“It is believed that a stray ember, from a nearby firework, ignited dry leaves in the guttering of our building which subsequently spread beneath the roof.

“Upon our discovery of the fire, local emergency Fire and Rescue Services were immediately notified following a 999 call and within a few minutes were in attendance to resolve the matter efficiently.”

They continued: “Brookenby Park has provided training facilities to the local fire station for a number of years and, thankfully, their familiarity with the site meant they were able to locate hydrants quickly.

“As a gesture of our sincere gratitude for the speed with which the danger was averted and damage limited, we have made this donation to The Fire Fighter’s Charity.

“Thank you to Binbrook, Market Rasen, Louth and Caistor Fire Stations and all personnel who assisted us in our time of need.

“We are proud of your efforts and hope we can continue to support you in any way possible to ensure that communities in the surrounding area may continue to enjoy the safety afforded from your service.”

Binbrook Fire Crew regularly raises money for the Fire fighters Charity, so Watch Manager Anthony Snowden was very pleased to accepte the cheque on the charity’s behalf.

He said: “The cancellation of fundraising events due to Covid 19 has meant that well loved and respected charities like The Firefighter’s Charity need as much support as they can get and we know this donation will be well received.

“We are very thankful to Brookenby Park Management for their generosity.”
