Elizabeth, 10 has hair chopped for children’s cancer charities close to her heart

A 10 year old girl from the Sleaford area hopes to inspire others having just had her lovely long locks cropped short for two charities.

Elizabeth Tilley decided to make the cut and donate 20 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs from real, donated hair for young people who lose their own while undergoing treatment for cancer or other medical conditions.

Elizabeth had her hair cut by her hairdresser Dana Rowe on Saturday July 18 and has raised an amazing £1,300. Mum Rita Tilley said: “She’s been growing her hair for four years.

“One of her class friends got cancer, and lost his hair because of the treatments, when I explained why he lost his hair and told her some people donate their own hair to turn into wigs, she said she wanted to do that.

"She has stuck to that idea and about three months ago she said she was ready to do it (get it cut) as she is leaving Osbournby primary school and it would be something nice to do at the end of this chapter in her life as something meaningful and give back to her community.”

At the same time she is seeking donations to fundraise for the James Anthony Foundation.

Rita said: "The other charity she's raising money for is also very close to her heart. Another child in her school died with a brain tumour after a six-year battle.

"The school supported Elizabeth all the way and we couldn't been more grateful.”

The James Anthony Foundation was a non profit organisation set up by the family of James O’Connor in memory of the Osbournby Primary School pupil, who was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour at the age of two.

After numerous rounds of surgery, chemotherapy and the return of the cancer, he died in February 2022 aged eight.

The Foundation is a non profit organisation to raise awareness around the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer. It also aims to support children and their families who have been diagnosed with a brain or spinal tumour.

The James Anthony Foundation is a non profit organisation in memory of James ( he was a friend of Elizabeths that attended Osbournby primary school together). The charity aims to raise awareness around the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer and support children and their families who have been diagnosed with a brain or spinal tumour.

Elizabeth says she would like to inspire other young children to be kind and encourage them to do something nice for others in need.
