Gelder Group receive ‘highly commended’ award for Gainsborough's Savoy Cinema
The Gelder Group has received a Highly Commended award for its work on the Savoy Cinema in Gainsborough.
The award was presented at the Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards, organised by the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce.
The commendation recognises the success of the project that has played a pivotal role in supporting the regeneration of Gainsborough town centre and boosting confidence in the town’s long-term future.
The Savoy project presented several complex construction and heritage challenges, requiring careful planning, specialist expertise and strong partnership working.

The result is a vibrant four-screen cinema that has transformed an unused space into a thriving leisure destination for residents and visitors.
The Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards celebrate excellence, innovation and best practice across the county’s-built environment sector. Being Highly Commended places the Savoy Cinema among the most notable developments delivered in Lincolnshire this year.
The cinema forms an important part of the wider Thriving Gainsborough programme, which is delivering long-term investment and renewal across the town centre.
Coun Matt Boles, chairman of West Lindsey District Council, said: “On behalf of West Lindsey District Council, I would like to extend our congratulations to Gelder Group on this well-deserved recognition.

“The Savoy Cinema is a shining example of what can be achieved when ambition, expertise and partnership working come together.
“This project replaced a vacant and under used space and has re-energised Gainsborough town centre, creating a destination that our residents can be proud of.”
The cinema sits alongside a range of regeneration initiatives within the Thriving Gainsborough programme, including the new four-screen Savoy Cinema development; Shop Front Grant scheme, supporting local businesses to improve and revitalise their premises; public realm improvements and enhanced green spaces; investment in heritage buildings and key town centre sites and initiatives to increase footfall and strengthen the evening economy.
Sally Grindrod-Smith, director of Planning Regeneration and Communities at West Lindsey District Council, said: “The success of the Savoy Cinema demonstrates the impact of strategic regeneration delivered in partnership with experienced contractors such as Gelder Group.
“Through Thriving Gainsborough, we are seeing real momentum from improved shop fronts and enhanced green spaces to major capital projects that are transforming the look and feel of the town centre.
“The ‘Highly Commended’ award is recognition not just of a building, but of the wider vision to create a thriving, resilient Gainsborough.”
