'Incredibly grateful' - Three community groups in Boston receive hundreds of pounds to support work with young people

Three community organisations in the Boston area have received hundreds of pounds to support their work with young people.

The money has been presented to the causes through Asda Foundation’s Young Futures Fund.

The foundation is an independent charitable foundation funded by Asda. Across the UK, it set aside up to £950,000 in grant funding to support grassroots groups delivering vital resources, activities and workshops for young people aged four to 18.

The funding was aimed at supporting activities that boost children’s mental health and wellbeing, while opening up positive opportunities for the future, a spokesman said. It also helped tackle inequalities faced by many families, particularly during school holidays, including access to good nutrition, hygiene and emotional support.

In addition, grants funded essential equipment and kit to give children the best possible start in life and encourage physical health, inclusion and overall wellbeing, the spokesman added.

Among the groups to benefit in the Boston area was Friends of St Nics, receiving £500 towards the support it provides to pupils at St Nicholas CofE Primary Academy, Boston.

Laura MacRae, chairman of the group, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Asda Foundation for their generous £500 grant to The Friends of St Nics. This funding will help us provide essential food, breakfast supplies, and basic hygiene products for our children and families during the school holidays.

“This grant will allow us to continue supporting our community in a practical and compassionate way, ensuring that no child goes without and every family feels valued and supported. We are truly thankful for this kindness and the positive impact it will have on our children.”

Elsewhere in the Boston area, Wyberton FC Under 14s team received £500 to provide kit for the players, and Boston Colts FC was awarded £500 for new equipment.

Three other causes that count Boston’s Asda store as their nearest branch also received funds: Billinghay and District Community Swimming Pool (£1,000 to assist teens in completing their National Pool Lifeguard Qualification courses); Friends of Eresby School, at Spilsby (£875 to support Eresby School’s Thrive Approach work, helping children to develop emotional regulation, confidence and communication skills); and Wainfleet and District Young Farmers Club (£500 to deliver more craft sessions and other creative projects).

Stephen Bromby, Asda Boston's community champion, said: “These grants provide a wonderful opportunity to help keep these projects running and will benefit the children and young people in our community.”
