Louth Lions raise over £1,800 at drive-in movie night

The first of two recent drive-in movie nights, organised by the Louth & District Lions Club, had to be cancelled due to poor weather, but the second film night went ahead and raised more than £1,800 for good causes in our area.

Louth Lions’ spokesman Peter Moore told the Leader: “There are few certainties in life; death, taxes and dire August Bank Holiday weather.

“And so it was that a few weeks ago, the highly anticipated Louth Lions drive-in movie of Mamma Mia succumbed to the wet weather.

“For safety reasons, the organisers had little option but to cancel the Saturday night showing.

“However, Sunday proved a much better day and The Blues Brothers showing went ahead as planned.”

The car park at Tedder Hall in Manby was transformed into a classic drive-in theatre.

Peter continued: “Local DJ Mike Kinnaird provided some warm-up jokes with County Linx Radio providing the sound track from their mobile studio.

“Meanwhile, burgers, mocktails, ice-cream and popcorn were served to the cinema goers in their cars.

“Then as the sun set, up stepped Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, James Brown, John Candy and the biggest pile-up of police cars in cinema history!

“Punters enjoyed the huge screen and sound, all from the comfort of their cars.”

Although one night was cancelled, the Lions still managed to raise just over £1,800 for local causes. These charities will be decided by the club in the months ahead.

The Lions added that the movie night would not have been possible without the generosity of company sponsors, adding that more events may be held in the future.
