Oyez! Oyez! New town crier needed for Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea
Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! The shout has gone out for a new town crier in the seaside towns of Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea.
It’s a volunteer role but is being advertised as a job that would be ideal for someone who “is passionate about contributing to the community”.
Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council is looking to recruit the town crier “to represent and promote the parish”.
The authority hopes the perfect candidate will be able to bridge traditions and the vibrant spirit of modern life.

A spokesperson said: “We are seeking an outgoing, reliable and enthusiastic individual with a good command of language and the ability to compose and present proclamations (sometimes at short notice) to large groups of people.
"The successful applicant will be willing to attend events on weekdays or at weekends, during the day or evening. Some local travel will be necessary.
"The post is honorary and unpaid. However, expenses for travel will be considered.
"We welcome applications from individuals who are passionate about our community, enjoy public speaking and want to play an active role in local life in Mablethorpe and Sutton.
"Be the voice of our community. Keep the tradition of town criers alive.”
People of all backgrounds are invited to apply for the position by the deadline date of Friday, October 2.
Application forms can be obtained from the town clerk’s office at Mablethorpe Library on Stanley Avenue, Mablethorpe or by calling 01507 613646.
Town criers in the UK trace back to medieval times when they were the public’s primary source of news.
Today, only about 200 remain across the country, making public announcements while dressed in traditional red and gold livery and ringing a handbell.
