Cadet LCpl Jack Bultitude, 15, was out on his bicycle raising money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal last October when he witnessed the collision.

Jack, who has been with the Market Rasen Cadets since the age of 12, was able to spring into action and offer
 assistance at the scene.

First aid has long been a
subject held with great
importance within the Army Cadet Force, with cadets and adults encouraged to learn and keep up to date as much as possible.

It is a skill that while hopefully not needed too often, can make a huge contribution to unfortunate situations.

Jack said: “I didn’t even have to think about stopping - I just wanted to help.”

His mum, Lorraine Skeats, said: “His automatic reaction was to dial 999.

“He spoke to the emergency services and they
requested a helicopter, an
ambulance, police and
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.

“He managed to give the operator his exact location by using the app What3words.

“He attended to a lady twho was at the scene as he didn’t want her to go into shock.

“He sat and talked to her, contacted her family members for her and he basically kept reassuring her and wouldn’t leave her until help arrived

“When the emergency services arrived, he gave a
detailed statement to the
police telling them exactly what happened.”

In the past cadets and adults may have administered first aid and maybe not received the recognition for their actions, so the national Army Cadet Force Association present awards for Praiseworthy First Aid.

In honour of his efforts, Jack recently received a commendation
letter from the County Commandant - Colonel J A Field MBE, informing him that he had been awarded the National Army Cadet Force National
Praiseworthy Award for First Aid.

Lorraine said: “When he received the letter we couldn’t believe it - we were gobsmacked.

“I am so proud of him.

“For a teenager to react the way he did is amazing.

“Jack was there for a reason and the reason was for him to help out.

“I had messages at the time from his fellow cadets, and Officer Commanding Major Webber spoke to Jack about it and congratulated him for what he did. They are all so proud of him

“Once they are allowed to meet face to face again, they are going to invite friends and family from Market Rasen detachment to present him with his certificate and
special badge.”
