One of Caistor’s major events is set to go ahead despite the coronavirus pandemic, with organisers thinking ‘inside the box’ to make it happen.

The annual beer festival organised by Caistor & District Lions is always a crowd pleaser, attracting thousands of visitors.

The date was all set for this year’s event - Saturday, June 13 - but then the coronavirus pandemic hit.

Not wanting people to miss out this year, to keep within government guidelines, the industrious group has decided to hold a virtual beer festival .

They hope to create the same festival feeling, albeit from the comfort of your own home, with great beer, festival t-shirts, commemorative glasses and live music all on offer.

Lions president Andy Gutherson said: “As Lions we wanted to create an event for the community and raise some money too, as our fund-raising opportunities this year are going to be very limited, but needs will still exist.

“The beer festival is always a great event and the reaction to this year’s virtual event has been outstanding.

“This year, under the circumstances, we are going to stream music from some of the bands that would have played on the Saturday afternoon and evening.

“I have sorted a local brewery to supply boxes of beer, who will make a donation per box ordered for the event to the Lions.

“I have also sourced a souvenir glass and t-shirts for people to buy in advance.

“There will also be a donations page running during the event.”

The Lions have teamed up with the Lincolnshire Brewing Company, a supporter of previous events at Caistor, who have put together four beer choices for the Lockdown Festival.

For every box of beer ordered, the Lincolnshire Brewing Company will make a donation to the Lions to support their charity fund.

Orders and payments need to be direct with LBC via messenger on Facebook, by email [email protected] or call 07833 454196.

The beer will be delivered to Caistor in the week before the Lockdown Beer Festival and plans are to distribute it from a central collection point.

Orders for the glasses have exceeded expectations, so quantities are being increased.

T-shirts are also proving to be popular and these must be ordered by Monday, May 25, at the latest.

Full details of how to order can be found on the Caistor & District Lions Beer Festival page.

Payments need to be made via PayPal using [email protected] and choosing the friends and family option.

Andy added: “Who knew a virtual beer festival would prove to be so popular!

“Thank you all for the support for the Lions charities.”
