Spilsby Light Night to take a break in 2026 as Sessions Arts looks to  exciting future

Spilsby Light Night will take a pause in 2026, organisers at Sessions Arts have confirmed, as they focus on securing funding and developing future arts activity in the town.

The popular event, which has become a much-loved highlight in Spilsby’s cultural calendar, will not take place this year after it was not possible to put the necessary funding in place to deliver the event.

While the decision has been described as disappointing, Sessions Arts has stressed that the break forms part of a wider, positive plan for the future of arts and culture in Spilsby.

A spokesperson for Sessions Arts said the organisation is currently concentrating on the development of Spilsby Sessions House, which is set to open as a major new arts and cultural venue in 2027.

The refurbishment of the Sessions House is a key part of East Lindsey District Council's £8 million Lincolnshire Wolds Culture & Heritage programme.

The project has attracted £4.9 million from the UK government's Levelling Up Fund and over £1 million in additional Heritage at Risk funding from Historic England secured in August last year.

Plans are already underway to incorporate elements of Spilsby Light Night into a launch event for the new venue, allowing familiar creative features to return in a new and expanded format.

In the meantime, Sessions Arts is actively working to secure funding for a programme of local outdoor arts events in 2026, with activities expected to begin in late spring or early summer. The programme aims to continue the organisation’s commitment to delivering accessible, high-quality arts experiences for residents and visitors alike.

Sessions Arts thanked everyone who has supported Spilsby Light Night over the years, including audiences, artists and partners, and said it is looking forward to sharing further details of upcoming events in due course.

“While Spilsby Light Night is taking a break this year, this is very much about building for the future,” the organisation said. “We’re excited about what’s next and look forward to welcoming the community back to enjoy new creative experiences very soon.”
