Boston and Skegness Conservative candidate Matt Warman has today (Thursday) revealed the backing of Transport Secretary Grant Shapps

Following a number of meetings between Mr Warman,Mr Shapps and Roads Minister Baroness Charlotte Vere, the Transport Secretary said: "Matt Warman has been a relentless champion for the Boston Bypass and has rightly met with both myself and Roads Minister Baroness Vere.

"We are in the process of investigating options which we will look to progress if we are returned to Government in December."

The Bypass, formally known as the Boston Distributor Road, will allow commuters and visitors to reach their destinations, in Boston or beyond, more quickly, and will build on the significant government funding that has already been invested in The Quadrant project at Wyberton, outside Boston. Ultimately it will include a new major river crossing and is projected to cost £100m.

Mr Warman said: "Just recently we saw how taking one lane out of action in one direction on the John Adams way caused hours of frustrating hold ups.

"From holidaymakers trying to get to our wonderful sandy Skegness beaches to hauliers trying to move high quality Lincolnshire produce, we need to show that Boston is open for business with roads that are fit for purpose.

"That there is the political will at Government level to deliver this for Boston is not in doubt, from Chris Grayling’s use of Boston as an example on launching the ‘Bypass fund’ to the current Transport Secretary Grant Shapps acknowledgement of current progress.

"My efforts, should I be fortunate enough to be re-elected as your MP, will be to work with Lincolnshire County Council to develop a business case that attracts the funding we so desperately need to unlock Boston’s potential. Government support for this major, long-term project is clearly not in doubt."
