Section of A15 through Folkingham set for full rebuild and improvements
A major reconstruction and improvement scheme is scheduled to begin this summer for a section of the A15 at Folkingham, south of Sleaford.
A 1km section of the A15 will be fully reconstructed, alongside measures designed to make it easier and safer for people to move around the village.
The works will be carried out along the A15, Market Place and Billingborough Road, alongside additional improvements such as narrowing sections of the carriageway and installing a new uncontrolled pedestrian crossing point.
Coun David East, executive member for highways, said: “This is an important investment in Folkingham that will benefit everyone who lives in, works in or visits the village. As well as providing a smoother and more reliable road surface, the scheme will help reduce the need for future major repairs and the disruption that comes with them.

“The additional measures, including carriageway narrowing and a new crossing point, have been designed to improve safety and make it easier for pedestrians to move around the village, creating a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.”
Coun Martin Hill, the local county councillor for Folkingham Rural, added: “Folkingham is a historic and architecturally important village, with the busy A15 running through its centre. These improvements will help strike a better balance between keeping traffic moving and creating a safer, more attractive environment for the people who live, work and spend time here.
“Alongside the road reconstruction, the new crossing point and traffic-calming measures will make it easier for people to access local businesses, community facilities and services.”
Work is set to begin on Monday, August 10 for up to seven weeks on the A15, from the bridge north of Folkingham to Brickyard Lane (including the Market Place and approximately 250m of Billingborough Road).

It will involve a combination of daytime and overnight closures. Daytime closures (excluding the A15) will be in place between 7am and 7pm. Overnight closures on the A15 will be in place from 7pm to 6am.
Advanced notice signs will be installed closer to the time with confirmed dates for each closure.
Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works.
The diversion route during closures of the A15 will be: A15 / B1177 / B1394 / A52 / A15, and vice versa. For the closure of Billingborough Road: A15 / A52 / Mareham Lane / Billingborough Road, and vice versa.
Coun East added: “We’re grateful to everyone for their patience during these works. Our teams will be working hard to deliver the improvements as quickly and efficiently as possible, with as little disruption as we can.”
This scheme is part of a £12 million programme focused on maintaining the county’s key strategic routes and ensuring they remain safe and reliable for everyone who uses them. Among the road being improved this financial year are the A15, A151, A57, A1031, A606 and B1174.
