UPDATED: Traffic delays after lorry loaded with pigs overturns on A17 Holdingham roundabout near Sleaford
Severe traffic delays were expected to continue approaching Holdingham Roundabout, near Sleaford, after a lorry transporting pigs overturned.
Lincolnshire Police reported around midday that the HGV carrying livestock overturned on the roundabout causing delays to traffic trying to negotiate the area.
Police closed the exit from the roundabout leading onto the A17 towards Boston and Kings Lynn while recovery work was ongoing.
They said: “We are on scene dealing with the incident. No injuries are reported but the incident does require us to transfer a number of pigs and to ensure the animals are safe and their welfare needs are met.”

They added: “We're advising road users to avoid the area where possible. The roundabout is passable with care.”
However, according to motorists at the scene, traffic was at a standstill on routes leading to the roundabout, with traffic also struggling to travel around the roundabout towards the A15 towards Peterborough.
In an update at 1.50pm police added that the roundabout remained congested with the A17 from Holdingham towards Boston closed as well as the B1518 into Sleaford.
They said: “We expect the roads to be closed and the area congested for the next few hours.
“We are transferring the livestock and will then need to recover an overturned HGV which has settled in a ditch.”
