Willingham: Scout leader of 34 years is remembered at memorial event

Penny ran the cub section for more than 30 years and during her year’s service she saw around 1,000 children grow up through her pack.

Penny organised many varied events from camping football art and crafts to growing vegetables.

Penny sadly passed away last year but is remembered fondly as a true friend of scouting.

Liza Kent said: “I supported Penny in the last 14 years of scouting and also have very fond memories of my time spent with her.”

“No doubt Penny would have liked to thank Simon Woodhead, Andrew Deague and Helen Bates for all their hard work and effort in arranging for the planter to be erected.”

“Penny was so active, she was also a mother to three sons who have achieved very well and whom she was very proud of.”

“Penny has seven grandchildren again whom are very sporty and involved with the scouting movement, football and athletics.”

“Penny was well respected by the community and had many friends and was involved weekly with the Church.”

“Penny loved to play golf, bake and spend time with her family.”

The memorial event for Penny was held at Willingham Playing Field.
