A misguided Worksop teen who pledged to get a tattoo of footballer Peter Crouch on his bum on his 17th birthday if Stoke beat Chelsea says he will fulfil the promise after his claim backfired.

Tommy Smith, 15, tweeted the bold statement before the Capital One Cup clash on October 27 and was shocked when the Stoke striker responded: “When’s your birthday, my friend?” after Stoke won on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

The unlucky teen has since been invited onto Sky talkshow Soccer AM where he announced on-air that he would be going ahead with the Peter Crouch bum tattoo on his 17th birthday. He has even been invited back onto the programme in two years’ time to show it off.

Tommy’s mum, Claire Smith, told the Guardian: “Tommy isn’t the kind of person to go back on his word- a promise is a promise.

“We couldn’t believe it when he was invited onto Soccer AM. He was a bag of nerves before he got there but had the time of his life.

“It’s his favourite TV show, one he watches every single week. And before he knew it he was in front of the camera mingling with his idols and appearing in national papers- all because of one cheeky tweet.”

After his TV debut, Tommy tweeted: “One of the best days of my life.

“Thanks to the Soccer AM crew for making me feel so welcome.”
