We walk on them, run on them, cram them into ill-fitting footwear, ignore them and even hate them! It’s time to give your feet the love they deserve!

For the same price as a pedicure, haircut or average monthly gym membership, a session with Foot Vitality could fix all those nasty foot problems we don’t like to talk about or think about.

Maria Ferrier, the woman behind Foot Vitality in Lincolnshire, knows better than most, how much we take our feet for granted – and how embarrassed we can be when we get problems.

Fungal nail infections, corns, athlete’s foot, hard skin, ingrowing toenails, discoloration – you name it; she’s seen it and nothing fazes her.

An angel at your feet!

Maria is the friendly face of foot care – offering far more than just neatly trimmed nails, softer soles and happy heels. She can tackle a whole range of foot-related problems, and, thanks to her background, will give your trotters a complete health check to pick up any other related issues.

“I’m not at all judgemental,” she said. “In 40 years of nursing there is very little that I have not seen and the beauty of me having my nursing skills and knowledge is that I can spot other things.

“Very rarely do people look after their feet. You are on them every day and you are putting them through everything. If you do look after your feet, your health and general wellbeing will be better.”

One person she treated said afterwards “I feel like I’m walking on marshmallows now!”

Foot issues related to diabetes are common and as we get older it can be physically more difficult to look after our feet properly – bending down to trim nails or file hard skin can be impossible. But, foot problems are far from being just an ‘elderly’ issue.

Who needs foot health care?

The answer is everyone! And regular foot care – every four to six weeks – can maintain healthy feet and stop problems developing.

People of any age can develop issues such as athlete’s foot, ingrowing toenails, corns, callouses, hard skin and fungal infections. Doing a lot of sport, being in the gym, running, swimming, spas and pools can all make us susceptible to things like verrucas, corns or athlete’s foot. Leaving problems like this – and fungal infections – untreated will only make them worse, mean treatment and cure could take longer and can make people even more reluctant to seek help because they are embarrassed or simply don’t want to think about it.

Maria says she not only likes to get to know her clients, but to understand their feet too and will discuss things like general health, medication and lifestyle, all of which can have a bearing on your foot health.”

“It’s a bit like a hairdresser,” she says. “If you go to a new hairdresser it will take them some time to get to know how your hair behaves and what the potential issues are.”

More than cosmetic

Having your toenails cut, buffed and painted is a regular routine for many – but apart from looking prettier, it’s not doing anything to improve the longer-term health of your feet.

Having been a general nurse (RGN) in many different areas of nursing, she brings all that expertise to her new role.

“Foot health is more than just cosmetic,” Maria explains. “I don’t paint nails, but I think we do a different aspect of looking after your nails to those of a beautician – for example they would not be qualified to deal with an ingrowing toenail, or removing corns”

She also shares her expertise so that her customers can continue with treatment and preventative measures in between appointments and can provide things like small orthotic moulds required for issues like corns or rubbing in between toes.

Appointments available now

Whether it’s a one off foot health check and nail trim (from £25); a routine check, nail cut and clean, foot file and treatment for corns and verrucas (from £38); or a full neuro-vascular assessment, which is particularly useful for someone with diabetes (around £40) or you’re just not sure what you need, just contact Foot Vitality.

“It’s surprising how many people have things going on with their feet they are not even aware of – for instance, verrucae,” she said. “I always check people’s feet for any verrucas, athlete’s foot and corns.”

Maria currently has appointments to offer and will bring all her own equipment (fully sterilized or single use) with her and carry out the assessment and treatment in the comfort of your home.

She is also available for group appointments for care homes and nursing homes.

Give your feet the love they deserve!

It’s all too easy to keep our feet out of sight and out of mind, but the sooner problems are dealt with the better – and easier – treatment is, and prevention is always better than cure.

So why not put the future health of your feet firmly in Maria’s expert hands and book that appointment now.
