Better week for Beckingham bowlers with three victories

Beckingham’s bowlers enjoyed a much better week of matches, winning three of their five encounters in the four leagues they take part in.

The Isle of Axholme Evening League team remained unbeaten with an 8-2 victory at Marton on 24th May, winning one rink and drawing the other two.

The Gainsborough Standard Bowls League team beat Marshall Sports on 22nd May in the Gainsborough Rotary Millennium Trophy.

Victory saw them progress through to the next round when they play Marshalls A on 26th June.

Beckingham won the home leg by 24 shots and honours were shared in the away leg.

Beckingham’s visit to Scotter 1 on 20th May in the GSBL resulted in an 8-2 defeat, despite pulling back on one rink from 18 shots to four, losing out on the last end 20 shots to 19.

The Isle of Axholme Pensioners’ Northern players had a good 6-0 home win over Crowle on 21st May.

But the Central Section team went down 4-2 at Wheatley B, winning one of the two rinks, but losing out on aggregate.

Congratulations to the Beckingham trio of Nev Hethershaw, John Wilson and John Foster who took third place in Wheatley’s Gala Day Triples on 18th May.
