Andrews named skipper as Marshalls make changes

MARSHALLS Cricket Club will be under new leadership in the 2012 season.

The Bassetlaw Championship side are to be led by Gary Andrews (pictured), after Paul van den Heuvel stepped down from the captaincy.

And Australian star Robbie Power will not be returning to Marshalls, instead opting to ply his trade in London.

Van den Heuvel, who counts three Twenty20 tournament titles as his highlights as Marshalls skipper, told the Standard: “I’ve stood aside as captain and Gary Andrews will be doing it, although I will still be playing.”

“Family and work take up a lot of my time and after four or five years I felt it was time for someone a bit younger to take it on.”

He confirmed that the club were seeking a new overseas player, and revealed the new man may be signed within days.

“I think Robbie wants to do some travelling and spend some time down in London, but I’ve almost got someone else sorted.”

“I’m just waiting on confirmation in the next few days on an all-rounder.”
