England cricket call ups for Worksop College old boys

WORKSOP College is celebrating a unique sporting achievement this week, with the news that two former students will play cricket for England in the winter tour of India.

Old Worksopians Joe Root and Samit Patel have been selected for the four-test tour.

Previously uncapped Root, a batsman for Yorkshire, attended the Worksop school betwen 2006 and 2008, while Patel – who retains his place in the international squad – was a student there from 1998 to 2003.

Last winter Root travelled to India with the England development squad.

A spokesperson for Worksop College said: “At the age of 21 this is a superb achievement for Joe.

“All at Worksop College who have followed his career since he left in 2008, wish both he and Samit continuing success.”
