First win of the season for Retford

Retford picked up their first win of the Bassetlaw Cricket League Championship season, with a five-wicket beating of Harthill.

At Cricket Field Lane the visitors were dismissed for 128, Nathan Singleton taking 3 for 25 and Chris Bowers 3 for 23.

In reply Retford knocked off the runs for the loss of five wickets, Mark Bull top scoring with 34 to secure 20 points for his side.

The victory gives Retford a 25-point cushion over second bottom team Harthill.

Ordsall Bridon are still top of the league, but were on the wrong end of a draw this week, at home to North Wheatley with Leverton.

The visitors made 269 for 7 thanks to 76 from Dwight Thomas and 63 from Will Shaw.

Tim Miles took 3 for 56 for Ordsall, who then went on to make 188 for 9 in reply, David Fagan top scoring with 56 runs and Darren Spooner adding 42.

For North Wheatley, David Wilcox took 5 for 42, helping his side to 18 points, Ordsall Bridon taking just eight.

This weekend Retford play host to Thoresby Colliery, Ordsall Bridon are away at Glapwell and North Wheatley with Leverton will be at home to Clipstone Welfare.

In Division One, Everton beat Edwinstowe by six wickets to take 19 points and stretch their lead over second-placed Caythorpe II.

Edwinstowe made 201 for 7, Dan Leach starring with the ball for Everton with 4 for 33.

With the bat, Everton made 204 for 4, Jon Mimms once again putting in an impressive performance with 83 runs.

Ordsall Bridon’s second team secured an 87-run win over Notts and Arnold Amateur II, thanks to a knock of 93 from Luke Tong, and Jake Tong’s figures of 3 for 9.

Retford II thrashed Waleswood by eight wickets in Division Three.

Waleswood were all out for 114, Iain Bates taking 6 for 26, including a hat-trick, and Retford lost just two wickets on their way to 118 runs.

Sarvesh Kotian and Kashyap Suresh were both unbeaten on 49 and 47 runs respectively.
