Joy for Roses in final weekend

There was joy and despair for local sides in the final weekend of this season’s Bassetlaw and District Cricket League.

Pride of place must go to Roses Cricket Club who finished as runners-up in Division Four and with it have the hope of promotion to Division Three next season.

They welcomed third-placed Basford Mill to North Warren Road and a competitive game saw the hosts edge home by three wickets.

The visitors batted first and were bowled out for 113 with Ben Smith taking 3 for 22, but Roses didn’t find batting much easier and were thankful for a solid 38 from John Tittley which helped them over the winning line.

Elsewhere in this division, Marshalls also ended their season with a victory.

They travelled to Worksop and restricted the hosts to 119 for 7, with Nathan Plumtree taking 4 for 38, and then a fine 79 not out from Martyn Snell saw them ease to a seven-wicket win.

There was also a win for North Wheatley with Leverton II away to Blidworth II.

Wheatley only made 106 in their innings but Ian Tingle was on good form as his 5 for 23 helped bowl Blidworth out for 90.

But it was a disappointing end to the season for Evertron II as they failed to raise a team for their visit to champions-elect Woodsetts and conceded the match.

In the Championship, North Wheatley with Leverton finished with a win at home to Worksop – but it was a close-run thing.

The visitors made 177 with Jamie Bovill proving almost unplayable as he returned figures of 5 for 11, but Wheatley also struggled with the bat with an unbeaten 37 from Callum Harrison proving crucial as they reached their target with just two wickets to spare.

In Division One Wiseton finished their campaign with a win at home to Papplewick and Linby II.

Richard Watts (4 for 28) and James Moss (3-27) restricted the visitors to 121 all out and then 44 from Moss helped Wiseton claim a six-wicket victory.

Unfortunately, despite this, Wiseton still finished next to bottom and so are likely to be relegated.

Everton went down to a seven-wicket defeat at home to Killamarsh.

They scored a respectable 209 for 7 with Jon Mimms scoring 58, Dan Brighton 40 and Henry Eldered 30, but the Killamarsh batsmen proved too strong and comfortably reached their target for the loss of just three wickets.

Lea Park ended their season on a losing note in their Division Three match against Wadworth at Middlefield Lane.

Andy Whiteley’s score of 43 was the only highlight of Lea’s innings as they were bowled out for 107, and Wadworth passed that total with five wickets to spare, Andy Dewick taking 3 for 34.

Lea Park have had a good season, finishing third in the table, but look likely to miss out on promotion

In Division Five, Misterton have ended their season in freefall, going from promotion candidates a few weeks ago to end up in mid-table.

On Saturday they travelled to Todwick and suffered a 56-run defeat.

The hosts scored 157 for 8 with Darren Emmingham taking 4 for 25, but Misterton were bowled out for 101 with only Mark Boscolo offering any resistance with 35.

Wiseton II have had a difficult season in Division Six and finished next to bottom in the table, but they came close to a win in their final match away to Teversal II, the hosts scoring 156 and Wiseton ending just 19 runs short of victory with 138.
