The Chattertons Club Championships reached finals day on Sunday following a really good nine days of competition, helped along by good weather conditions.

Things had to be done slightly different this year due to COVID-119 restrictions, but this did not prevent the event beinga success.

Sponsored by Chattertons Solicitors and Wealth Management, 67 competitors played throughout the week, the tournament refereed by Helen Cook.

The Men’s singles champion 2020 is Henry Beesley, who played a competitive final against Will Mason.

Will, alongside Danielle Mason, claimed the Mixed Doubles title in a strong match against Emily Hawkesworth and James Newton.

Danielle added another trophy to the Mason display cabinet, winning the Ladies Doubles with Emily Hawkesworth, against Emma Mastin and Linda Barrow.

In the Men’s Doubles it was the turn of William Cheer and Seth Briggs-Williams to have their names engraved on the trophy after they overcame Richard Cook and Simon Bush.

In the 14 and under girls event Emily Stukins beat Matilda Clark in the final.

The Men’s qualifying group was won by Tom Mecklenburgh who played David Dunlop in the final.

Meanwhile the youngest players at the club put in some good performances.

There were some very close matches in this age group with excellent play from both Keita Cica and James Blythe.

In the orange there were also some very good matches from the players – Louis Clark, Keita Cica, Charlie Cook, Bonnie Haywood, Callum Purdy and Nataniel Szymiczek.

The green event was won by Neve Gibbons and Matilda Buck was the runner-up.

In the veterans category, the men’s doubles event was won by Ray Frankish and Anthony Hulley, the duo retaining the title that they won last year.

They earned victory over James Newton and Geoff Short in the final.
