The Preliminary round threw together the two WMC Amigos teams, and it was Gareth Jowett, Spencer Davis and Tony Goodwin who won through to the first round, where their opponents would be Pete Evans, Mark Gray, and Brad Martin.

It was Pete , Mark and Brad that won 2-0, the trio then breezing past Lee Dore snr, George Millington and Dave Manson to move into the semis, where they would meet Chris Fletcher, Gary Garton, and Ken Wilson, who had earlier beaten Liberal’s Terry Cox, Eric Hammond and Julian Smith.

They then beat Red Lion’s Chris Simpson, Tony Holland and Anthony Hulley.

This semi was an all-Ex Service affair, with Sports’ Pete Evans, Mark Gray, and Brad Martin getting the the win in a very close game.

The other half of the draw saw defending champions Arctic Shrew Monkeys’ team of Lee Yates, Martin Bell and Rick Garner start their campaign against Ex Service 501s’ Rick Seaman, Jamie Cooper, and Lee Woods.

The 501s soon took a 1-0 lead and had eight darts to win 2-0, but missed their doubles when it mattered, and the Monkeys got the win.

After this shaky start, the Monkeys then marched on to the semis, where the opposition was Seaview Oak’s Kristian Thein, Mark Kirby and Tony Parkin, who had previously beaten the Chatsworth’s captains table and the Liberal’s second team without dropping a leg. There were some good darts thrown in this semi, in which Lee Yates, Rick Garner and Martin Bell edged it to make the final.

The fantastic final swayed one way then the other, but it was to be the Evans, Gray and Martin trio’s night as they took the title, inflicting a first defeat on Rick, Martin, and Lee in this competition for a number of years.

The Knockout Cup semi-finals and final will be held at the Ex Service Club on Friday evening.

All four teams are asked to be there for 7.30pm, ready for the draw.
