Shields play in Northern League Division One, one step above Brigg, but, after a goalless first half, found themselves behind on 48 minutes as Josh Jordan met an Adam Drury corner at the far post.

Josh Batty had Brigg in dreamland with a second four minutes later.

But Shields pulled one back on 74 minutes when Dan Wilson met a set piece with a diving header.

With seven minutes left Brigg almost sealed it as Mase Ellender’s first-time shot on the turn forced a great reaction save from keeper Callum Elliott.

Instead, the home side then saved themselves two minutes from time when Jordan Lashley put away a penalty.

There was to be more spot kick agony for Brigg as, although Higton saved a shoot-out penalty, both Henry Parr and keeper Higton missed at the other end to lose 4-3.

Brigg are back in NCEL Division One action this week with a home game with Route One Rovers on Wednesday followed by the visit of Athersley Recreation on Saturday.
