BOSTON UNITED 1 KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS 1: Maguire nets first Pilgrims goal to earn late leveller

With six minutes left on the clock the central defender netted his first Pilgrims goal since his close-season move to the Jakemans Stadium, finding space in the crowded penalty area to meet Lewis Hilliard’s free kick and force his header beyond the dive of Sam Hornby.

Maguire’s late finish cancelled out the third-minute goal which saw Harriers, relegated from the National League last season, take the lead.

Debutant Joe Robinson, on loan from Ipswich Town and lining up alongside Maguire in the heart of defence, also scored his first goal in a Pilgrims shirt.

But, unfortunately for the 20-year-old, he found his own net just three minutes into his first appearance for the club.

Having already cleared a Mani Dieseruvwe effort off the line, the defender could only turn a cross from Zaine Francis-Angol into Christian Dibble’s goal.

In a game where both sides created good chances, Harriers stopper Hornby turned away Maguire’s free kick.

In the other goal Dibble also made some vital interventions, frustrating Tyrell Waite and Arthur Gnahoua.

Dibble, however, could only watch as Elton Ngwatala’s header came back off the post and James McQuilkin saw strikes blocked by Robinson, teammate Gregg Smith doing similar to keep out Keith Lowe’s effort.

With 20 minutes to go, Antonio Alcaraz Zamora was given his Boston debut, introduced alongside Hilliard.

And it was a delivery from the latter that led to Maguire’s leveller, the defender almost snatching a winner, only for Lowe to block his strike at the death.
