Clean sheet run is halted at Club Thorne Colliery but Brigg Town still win again

Two more wins in four days made it seven victories on the bounce to strengthen Brigg Town's place at the top of the NCEL Division One.

A 5-2 triumph at Club Thorne Colliery on Saturday followed the midweek 4-0 home win over Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Saturday did see the end of a run of six clean sheets and Brigg twice had to come from behind, but that was the thing that most pleased joint manager Martin Pembleton, who said: “We were slow to come out of the box on Saturday and they were probably the better team for the first 15-20 minutes.

“They did exactly what we should have done to them.

“They've put them in behind and caused us problems and they had a tricky left winger who was very pacey.

“We had to really dig in. I know there has been a lot of talk around our run of clean sheets – we'd had six on the bounce, which was great.

“But we knew at some stage we'd go 1-0 down or concede and it's about how you react.

“Both times we conceded on Saturday we have reacted really well and gone down the other end and scored a goal.

"That was the pleasing thing for me.

“It's another victory away from home after twice being behind.

“We we have come out second half and completely dominated and put them to the sword.

“Everybody was brilliant today and did exactly what we asked of them.”

At Club Thorne, Marc Newsham gave the home side a 25th minute lead.

Dayle Southwell levelled on 32 minutes only to see Wilfey Woodham restore Thorne's advantage on 42 minutes.

Southwell again replied just before the break before Brigg upped a gear and won 5-2 with goals by Reece York (60), Batty (78) and Archie Davidson (90).

Last Wednesday at home to Harrogate Railway, Dayle Hutson's 20th minute strike gave Brigg an interval lead before three late goals by Lewis Collins (78), Adam Drury (82) and Joshua Batty (90) rounded off a good night.

The Zebras now have an early five point advantge at the top of Division One though second-placed Field Olympic do have a game in hand.

Brigg next host mid-table LIV on Saturday.

Although they are yet to win away this season, LIV have proved durable on the road, having drawn three and only lost one of their four awaydays to date.

But Brigg will be looking to make it a perfect six after five wins out of five so far at home.
